Slow motion- Slows down time in the scene at certain to points. This could be to show the people reactions or maybe to introduce people into the scene.
Accelerated-Speeds up time. For example shows a whole night out in just a minute or to, this is so the viewer doesn't become bored.
Simultaneous time- Things happening the same time. For example the "Fire engine scene" where on person screaming in a burning building and the fire brigade are on there way, and we see that its happening at the same time.
Compressed time- Compressed time is when you have a certain scene cut down to a short amount of time. Like "Accelerated" it stops the audience becoming bored but also a big amount of time reduced. We see this in the film "Rocky" where he is training and it's cut down but we see it's been a long time as he has grown a beard.
Flashback- Where it goes back to a certain scene in the film. This is usually to see and event with the viewer didn't quite see. Also in films like back to the future where it goes back in time

Chapter 3:Transtion Types L cuts/Split Cuts
L Cut-This is when someone talking to someone else and it cuts to the other persons reaction. If you didn't do this you would confuse the audience and it wouldn't look "Seemless". It's called an L cut as on the editing software used it looks/shows an L shape.
Jump Cut- Ump cuts are always obvious jumping from one time to the next. Audio stays consistant.
Wipe- Looks like the screen is turning a page in book. It turns the page to another setting and wipes out the old. It changes the location without the audienc ebeing confused. These sorts of cuts were very popular in the 80's and were in films such as StarWars, Sci-fi films.
Continuously- Continuous edits compresses real time. This is so the audience don't get lost. These cuts arn't in time their cut on the action so the audience are distracted and don't notice the cut.
